Provincetown announced Oct. 19 that Phase 7 sewer expansion construction will continue on Winslow Street through the end of October, with work at the Veterans Memorial Community Center entrance expected to limit access for two days this week.

According to the town's construction schedule, a contractor crew will install a pit at the VMCC entrance on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and Thursday, Oct. 22. During those days, traffic will have only a small entrance and exit to the building between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., and drivers should expect delays. The parking lot will be reachable only from the Monument side of Winslow Street, and a police detail will be on hand to direct traffic.

For the rest of the week and through the remainder of October, crews will install sewer stubs on Winslow Street, starting at the VMCC end and working toward Jerome Smith Road. Work will run daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will require full road closures, so residents need to plan for parking and for entering or exiting their properties during those hours. Anyone headed to the school or the community center is asked to enter Winslow Street from Bradford Street and exit through the Monument parking lot. Once the Winslow Street work is finished, the crew will move to Jerome Smith Road between Winslow Street and Alden Street, with further updates to come.

The town also gave updates on two related projects. Construction of the satellite treatment facility on Route 6 remains on schedule for completion in late 2028 or early 2029; dewatering at the site is expected to continue through February or March of 2027, and crews have finished the concrete base mat and lower walls of the Headworks Building, with backfilling and masonry work planned for spring 2027. At the Central Vacuum Station on Ryder Street Extension, where the structure was completed last year, crews this fall and winter will install new sewage pumps, vacuum pumps, odor-control carbon absorbers and electrical upgrades, which will require some planned shutdowns of the vacuum sewer system; the town said it will give advance notice of when those shutdowns will occur, how long they will last and what residents and businesses need to do.
