Provincetown and Truro Boards Approve Joint Water Planning Process at Historic First Meeting

PROVINCETOWN — September 30, 2024 — Provincetown and Truro launch joint water planning process as housing ambitions outpace water supply. The two select boards, meeting jointly for the first time at the Truro Community Center on September 30, voted unanimously to advance a collaborative multi-year planning effort after Provincetown Water Superintendent Cody Salisbury and DPW Director Jim Vincent presented a roadmap estimating the towns need 720,000 additional gallons per day to support growth and achieve true system redundancy. Provincetown Town Manager Alex Morse told the boards that without a new source, full build-out of Truro's Walsh affordable housing property — central to both towns' housing crisis response — "the answer would be no." A One-Stop grant application for $350,000 to $400,000 is pending to fund a Water System Master Plan and Watershed Management Plan update; the towns expect an answer within a month. A proposed $9 million elevated storage tank in North Truro and a $20,000 groundwater modeling study are also on the capital roadmap. Both boards set their next joint meeting for February 24, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in Provincetown.
